Serum levels of the mitochondrial isoenzym of aspartate aminotransferase in myocardial infarction and muscular dystrophy.

چکیده
Aspartate aminotransferase (L-aspartate: 2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase, EC 2.6.1.1, glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase, GOT) comprises two isoenzymes. One is anionic and is associated principally with the soluble fraction of the cytoplasm, the other is cationic and is associated with the mitochondria [4]. A sensitive semi quantitative assay has been developed for cationic aspartate aminotransferase in serum or plasma and it has been demonstrated that this isoenzyme is a normal constituent of plasma [5]. This paper is concerned with the changes in plasma level of the cationic isoenzyme occurring after myocardial infarction and in muscular dystrophy.

1. Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) Alanine aminotransferase measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of certain liver diseases (e.g., viral hepatitis and cirrhosis) and heart diseases. Elevated levels of the transaminases can indicate myocardial infarction, hepatic disease, muscular dystrophy, or organ damage. Serum elevations of ALT activity are rarely observed except in parenchymal...
متن کاملChanges in the Level of Mitochondrial and Cytosolic Aspartate Aminotransferase Activities in Aluminium Intoxified Rat
The activity of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in human serum has been widely determined as a diagnostic aid in liver disease. In this study, the effect of aluminium on AST isoenzymes in relation to aluminium intoxified patients has been investigated. Using gel filtration chromatography technique with Sephacryl S-300, mitochondrial aminotransferase (m-AST) and cytosolic aminotransferase (c-AS...
متن کاملA "reagentless" fluorometric method for creatine kinase activity in serum.
Measurement of serum creatine kinase (CK; EC 2.7.3.2) activity is of great value in the diagnosis of myocardial and skeletal muscle diseases (1-3). The greater specificity of CK over that of other enzymes, such as lactate dehydrogenase and aspartate aminotransferase, for the detection of muscular dystrophy and myocardial infarction has attracted much interest in CK determinations. In a prelimin...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Flunixin meglumin on Changes Induced by Isoproterenol in Serum Biochemical Profile, Malondialdehyde and Heart Histology of Adult Male Rats
Background: Myocardial infarction (MI) is one of the most important causes of death worldwide. The effect of flunixin meglumine (FM) on MI is unknown. We investigated the protective effect of FM on the serum biochemical profile, malondialdehyde (MDA), and heart histology changes induced by isoproterenol (ISO) in adult male rats. Methods: Rats were randomly divided into four groups of six eac...
متن کاملEffects of therapeutic coronary reperfusion on aspartate aminotransferase isoenzymes in sera of patients with acute myocardial infarction.
We examined the kinetics of the catalytic activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST, EC 2.6.1.1) isoenzymes in serum of 28 patients with myocardial infarction who were to receive either intracoronary urokinase--reperfusion angiographically proved--or conventional therapy (control group). Cytosolic (soluble) AST (s-AST) activity in serum increased rapidly immediately after recanalization, re...
